We never met once

never had the chance

we spoke a few times

about god knows what

but we wrote all the time

about silliest little things

stuff that didn’t matter

of sand and its grains

of summer & the rains

of accidents & stitches

butt cracks & itches

But sometimes we did

speak of serious stuff

some truth, some bluff

there were slight knocks

of love in our socks

But the seas in between

dimmed its intensity

Our shores too far

to embrace its scar

So we wrote unattached

of all things detached

we spoke of bugs & bees

and our love for trees

And most of all we spoke

of songs & bands

And how we would dance

if we ever had the chance
